My niece is just 22,but she is now going through her second round of stage 4 breast cancer treatments and surgeries in the past 18 months. This is a particularly fast growing type of breast cancer and they have to be very aggressive with it.
I feel badly that I am not closer to help out with fund raisers and such for her.
I would like to make her an afghan or something to take with her to chemo treatments since it is so cold in there.
Now I know she doesn't need everything to have the pink ribbon on it. I was just thinking that a few squares on an afghan could have the ribbon on them.
My only problem is that i have several projects that I am working that have a deadline and can't possibly whip her out an afghan in time for her to use for her treatments.
I am not going to bug the ladies over at crochetville and ask for more squares. That seems a bit greedy to me. Instead I think I am going to grab my N hook and all my leftover yarn and make a bunch of granny squares and put them together for her.

Thats a very lovely idea. We all do what we can, and I believe ANY positive energy helps to fight cancer. Cancer needs to have its butt kicked permanently. A little over 10 years ago I lost my 34 year old sister to breast cancer; she fought for 4 years, but left behind 5 children. Last month my 75 year old Mom was diagnosed with uterine cancer. She just had surgery about 2 weeks ago, and they think they got it all.
How are you doing with your squares and your afghan? I would be happy to make a couple of squares for you, I would just need to know the size of the completed square. I just found your blog through Craigslist. I don't follow these things, other things keep me very busy. But every once in a while I take some time to "play" on the computer. Two women I know have just been diagnosed with breast cancer so your story touched me.
My square production has stalled for the moment actually. I have been busy with moving. We were told last minute we needed to move so the owner can have her house back.
I was actually thinking of using 12 inch squares for this. Just to make it easier to join them all together.
As soon as things calm down here I will be back to square making full steam.
If anyone would like to help out that would be awesome.
I can be reached at smm123(at)gmail(dot)com if you would like to talk more about it.
