I have been doing a coffee comparison here at home. Just for my own personal reasons. I do not ever receive any funding or support for any of this. (though I am poor and yarn and coffee don't buy themselves)
Since I am the sole drinker of coffee in the house I tend to buy specialty coffee. Usually I buy Millstone Chocolate Velvet. The kind where you grind the beans yourself at that loud machine and people stare at you while you do it. I only ever got about a pound of it which used to be $8.99/lb. ow it is $10.99/lb. Normally it would last me quite a while since I didn't drink coffee very often.
One week money was tight so I bought the Great Value coffee from Wal*Mart. That was only around $5.99 or something like that and I got a huge can of it. It wasn't anything fancy, just regular coffee. I did get the chocolate creamer to go with it however.
This last time that I bought coffee and saw that the Millstone had been raised in price I opted for something different. Mostly because now I drink way more coffee than I did a few months ago. So I bought the new Folger's Gourmet Chocolate Truffle. This was about $7.99 or $8.99.
What I have found is that there is really not much difference between the el cheapo coffee with the chocolate creamer and the not so cheap Folger's.
The Millstone does by far have the most flavor out of the three.
All money aspects of it aside. For the value of flavor alone I think I would choose the Millstone coffee. I don't have to use as much cream and sugar with it since it does have a stronger/bolder flavor.
But for the best flavor, best value I would have to choose the GC coffee. Why should I pay more for a brand name coffee when I can't really tell the difference anyway?
I know some of you are having a fit right now. My friend swears that the GV coffee is the worst thing ever.
I should point out I make my coffee stronger than most people. My mother told me that I use the same amount of coffee for my little 6 cup coffee maker that she uses for her full sized one.
I have not tested out the Kroger brand coffee yet. I have had many, many cups of Folger's regular coffee. I didn't put that in my taste test since I have not made any at my home. Folger's is the brand my parents swear by and don't drink anything else.
Not all the coffee I drink has to be chocolate. I just happen to prefer it. Most of the time I only add a little sugar and a little cream.
I would add more brands, but for right now I still have coffee to use and I don't want a bunch of stale coffee if I buy a bunch of different brands. I will try something new this week when what I have now is gone.
If there is a brand you think I should try let me know and I will put it to the taste test.

I love to drink nice strong coffee but can almost never tell the difference between el cheapo and budget busters. lol Are you joining the java swap at Crochetville? I wasn't going to do any more swaps but couldn't resist this one! lol
I don't think I will be joining that. I probably should lol. But I don't think it is in my budget to be in another swap.
Coffee must *almost* let the spoon stand alone! hehe
This is Nilliem from the 'ville, just checking to see that all was well. Anyhow, a coffee recommendation from me is the Eight 'O Clock, uh...dark? french roast? We buy beans and have a grinder, but the pre-ground is good. It makes a nice potent, but not bitter, cup of coffee. The hubby doesn't make it as strong as I do; hence I usually make it for him.
Have you tried any of the new flavored creamers made with *gasp* real cream? I haven't found one I love yet, but I'm slowly working my way through. I did find a recipe to make my own, but I won't have time for that till winter.
